Cupping

Cupping physical therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which cups are placed on the skin to create a suction force. These cups mobilize blood flow to promote the healing of a broad range of conditions.

Are You Dealing With Chronic Pain? Cupping Treatment Could Help You Find Relief

Cupping is a pain-relieving therapy treatment. When cupping is performed, cups are suctioned onto the skin to alleviate pain, promote relaxation, improve blood flow, and reduce inflammation.

What Is Cupping?

Cupping, also known as “tissue distraction release,” is an ancient method of alternative therapy, first used to treat pain and reduce inflammation in ancient Chinese, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern societies. When you receive cupping therapy at Wright Physical Therapy, inverted rubber pumps or silicone cups are applied to your skin by our Idaho physical therapists. A vacuum is created as the air in the cup cools, causing the skin to rise and the blood vessels to widen. The cups are moved over various parts of the body to elevate and separate tissue during the cupping procedure.

As a result, neural tissues, fascia, skin, ligaments, muscles, and tendons loosen more easily. Cupping relieves muscle tension, releases trigger points, stimulates lymphatic flow, improves circulation, and breaks up scar tissue adhesion.

Benefits Of Cupping For Chronic Pain

Evidence supports cupping as an effective treatment technique for many disorders, such as chronic neck pain, low back pain, and fibromyalgia.

While there are certain concerns about cupping, the process is scientifically proven. The negative pressure created by the suction in the cups aids in the enhancement of hydration and blood flow to body tissues, the reduction of bondage, and the elimination of extra fluids. There are numerous advantages to this treatment. It can improve the health of your skin, relieve respiratory problems, and even aid digestion. It is also utilized to speed up recovery times and relieve the symptoms of some injuries and illnesses.

There are also different methods of cupping that serve different purposes, which your therapist will give you more information about depending on your therapy treatment. Longitudinal, cross-fiber, and circular are all cupping methods. Longitudinal is the most common form in which the cup glides longitudinally across the muscle fibers. Cross fiber is used when the tissue is believed to be scarred. Circular is typically used at the end of the session to ensure that all areas have been covered.

It is important to be aware that cupping may cause bruises that can last up to two weeks on the skin. Bruises usually repair themselves over time, and they are not something to worry about!
